Zermatt
Zermatt is an inexhaustable hiking region. 400 kilometres of marked hiking trails lead you through fragrant mountain forests to tranquil alpine lakes and mighty glaciers. Cable cars shorten your way to the higher situated hiking areas. Numerous mountain chalets and restaurants are a welcome excuse to linger for a while.
Favoured on account of its southerly, sheltered and snow-reliable location and its three varied skiing regions, Zermatt boasts the longest skiing season throughout the Alps. 58 mountain railways, chair-lifts and ski-lifts (including Cervinia) transfer as many as 89,776 persons by the hour. There are 313 kilometres of marked pistes to choose from, from easy to difficult. Around the Matterhorn, there are also unlimited opportunities for ski tour lovers.
