Wörthersee
The Wörthersee region is situated right at the centre of Kärnten, the southernmost federal state of Austria, close to the borders of Slovenia and Italy. Sheltered by the Alps to the north, the southwesterly meteorological conditions provide for a pleasant, almost mediterranean climate. According to the season, you will see mountain tops covered with snow or lakes dotted with inflatable mattresses.
In the summer, the temperature can get up to 35° while the crystal-clear water can reach as much as 27°. The lake spans a length of 17 kilometres, while it is 1,600 metres wide and 86 metres deep at the deepest place. Close by, and yet in a completely different world, is the Keutschach valley with its 4 lakes. The valley of Keutschach offers good swimming spots and lots of opportunities to go walking or cycling. It is also the ideal holiday location for camping enthusiasts.
