Castle Gamlitz Hotel
The colours Mother Nature used to paint South Styria are so brilliant that this landscape has always been a popular place to have one's summer and country residence.
The tradition of Gamlitz Castle goes back as far as the year 1111 and has always managed to put a spell on poets and philosophers, musicians and painters, theatre-makers and many other artists.
Many curious gourmets are taken away by the charm of the castle and its vineyard and regard the place as a romantic retreat.
Castle Gamlitz was built between 1111 and 1131 and was donated to St. Paul's monastery in the Lavant valley by the Earl of Sponheim. Viniculture was already a focus of attention in those days and communion wine was pressed for the monastery at Gamlitz.
The castle also served as the summer residence of the abbot of St. Paul's. Over the centuries the castle changed hands numerous times before it finally came into the possession of the Melcher family.
