Sigmaringen Castle

The proprietors opted for a virtual 360-degree panorama tour made by moving-pictures to put the optimum focus on the castle's magnificent chambers. The aim of the tour was to wake the viewers' interest for the splendour of the days of yore and, of course, to attract more visitors to the castle.

Sigmaringen Castle was first mentioned in the year 1077, in the chronicles of the Monastery at Petershausen

The oldest parts of the castle lie hidden beneath the reconstructions and new buildings dating back to the 17th and 19th centuries. The secrets surrounding the earliest settlements and the strategic location of the rock on which the settlements were built will probably never come to light. Extensive excavations would be needed in order to find out more, but this is not possible owing to the intensive development. Judging by the Roman relics that were abundantly found in and around Sigmaringen, the keep named the "Roman tower" dating back to the 12th century could date from a Roman forerunner.
