Leipziger Deaconesses' Home
The Leipzig Deaconesses' House was founded in 1891 on the initiative of privy councillor, D. Oskar Pank, Superintendent of the Thomas Church. His aim was to staff the parish nursing station by the deaconess of an independent mother house.
As a place for practical training, a hospital was built next to the mother house. The first buildings were inaugurated in October 1900. Concurrently with the start of the in-patient sick-nursing, the policlinical work and nursing training - which later received official recognition in 1925 - were also launched.
Some 66 parish nursing stations were staffed by Leipzig deaconesses in Leipzig and places in the close vicinity, Vogtland County and the two Mulden valleys, in addition to the University Ophthalmic Clinic and hospitals in Borna, Colditz, Döbeln, Grimma, Hartmannsdorf, Mügeln, Rochlitz, Waldheim and Zschopau.
